UFC light-heavyweight champion took all challenger Glover Teixeira could throw at him and eventually cruised to a unanimous decision victory at UFC 172.
Jones won all 5 rounds on our MMA Crossfire scorecard.
Teixeira had his moments, but ultimately could not take Jones down in 8 attempts, nor could he land his power shots – until late in the last round – to wear him down.
Jones defends his title for the seventh consecutive time.

MMA Crossfire Expert Cassie Wiseman:
UFC FIGHT PASS EARLY PRELIMS
CHRIS “THE REAL DEAL” BEAL VS PATRICK WILLIAMS
WINNER: CHRIS BEAL VIA TKO.
Andrews: Two words: Flying knee. My FightPass kept blinking so I didn’t get to see the first round, but I did see the finish. Spectacular. I can only assume Beal avoided the ground which is his weakness as Cas said in her picks and utilized his strengths.
Wiseman: While Williams was the clear favourite if things went to the mat it was the standup that really showed danger for Williams. Tonight, we saw exactly that. Beal is such a fantastic learner. He is just continuing to show how evolved he became since the days of TUF. Winning by flying knee certainly showed his ability to go for any opportunity when it presents itself. The ‘All or Nothing’ attitude of Beal always makes him entertaining and tonight, in the biggest spotlight, he rocked Williams for the win.
SPORTSNET 360 PRELIMS
DANNY “LAST CALL” CASTILLO VS CHARLIE “THE SPANIARD” BRENNEMAN
WINNER: DANNY CASTILLO VIA KO.
Wiseman: When two fighters have KO power, it could be anyone’s night. In this case, it was Castillo’s night. The perfect overhand right, falling perfectly on the chin of Brenneman turned out the lights in a hurry. It could have happened in the reverse as well, but Castillo really showed fantastic striking tonight which made the difference.
#14 JESSAMYN “THE GUN” DUKE ) VS #12 BETHE “PITBULL” CORREIA
WINNER: BETHE CORREIRA VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION.
Wiseman: Duke had the reach advantage, but like Stefan Struve, didn’t use it to her advantage. She showed judo throws, but her inability to check kicks, throw kicks, or switch stances really allowed Correira to take it. Duke, taking as much damage as she did, won’t have much of a career if she doesn’t learn to check.
“THE FIREBALL KID” TAKANORI GOMI VS ISAAC VALLIE-FLAGG
WINNER: TAKANORI GOMI VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION.
Wiseman: I expected a rough fight and these guys didn’t disappoint. Heart and desire to win certainly showed through in this battle as Flagg spilled blood all over the octagon. They were both tired, but the gas tank of Flagg was superior. The power of Gomi shone through as the fight went the distance. Awesome fight! Very close to judge, but ultimately Gomi was able to gain ground in the second and third.
#2 JOSEPH BENAVIDEZ VS #8 TIM ELLIOTT
WINNER: JOSEPH BENAVIDEZ VIA SUBMISSION.
Wiseman: Elliot came out with an insane pace and 3 takedowns in the blink of an eye. However, Benavidez escaped, didn’t lose his composure, and reversed into a full mount with both arms trapped. Arms trapped and a choke. Elliot was forced to tap with his feet. A real show by both fighters. Not many could keep the pace set by Elliot, but likewise, not many could get in the position that Benavidez did for the win.
MAIN CARD
“BLESSED” MAX HOLLOWAY VS ANDRE “TOCUHY” FILI
WINNER: MAX HOLLOWAY VIA SUBMISSION
Wiseman: Fili scored large with takedown after takedown. However, you can never count out Holloway. Holloway showed experience by staying calm and waiting for the perfect situation to clamp on a submission. A quick and successful choke. Fantastic!
JIM MILLER VS YANCY MEDERIOS
WINNER: JIM MILLER VIA TKO.
Wisem.an: Medeiros came out with a great game plan, aim for the body. He was marking Miller early, but Millergot a hold of him which ended the night. Miller’s ability to submit opponents is at a different level. Fantastic showing by Miller
#5 LUKE ROCKHOLD VS #13 TIM “THE BARBARIAN” BOETSCH
WINNER: LUKE ROCKHOLD VIA SUBMISSION.
Wiseman: Rockhold, wow! Boetsch, when he went for the takedown, certainly didn’t picture the scramble going the way it did. Rockhold scrambled into a triangle from on top, then trapped the other arm to get into a more painful position. Rockhold showed a different level tonight over a powerful fighter.
#4 PHIL “MR. WONDERFUL” DAVIS VS #14 ANTHONY “RUMBLE” JOHNSON
WINNER: ANTHONY JOHNSON VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION.
Wiseman: The Johnson of old wasn’t impressive in any way. He never made weight and his cardio was crap. The Johnson of tonight was a beast. His takedown defence was impressive, but I was more shocked by his head movement. Incredible! Davis just wasn’t able to touch Johnson. His kicks were pushed away, his strikes were predictable, just a vastly improved fighter.
MAIN EVENT
JON “BONES” JONES VS GLOVER TEIXEIRA
WINNER: JON JONES VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION
Wiseman: I wasn’t expecting things to go the distance, but Jones is too versatile with his combinations. Teixeira is always powerful and dangerous, but he didn’t mix things up or take control of the fight at all. Jones did whatever he wanted. I was surprised by the lack of rights that Jones threw, which is something that Rogan also commented on, but the win was easy for Jones. We need another Gustaffson fight.
